WELLMAN- Betty Elizabeth Romine, was born August 25, 1922, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Jennie (Wenieke) Whalen. She grew up in Burlington. She graduated from Burlington High School and graduated from beauty school. On January 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donall J. Romine, in Kahoka, Missouri. After they were married they moved to Wellman. She owned and operated Betty's Beauty Box in Wellman. She worked in the dietary department at the University of Iowa Hospital, she worked in the business office at the Iowa Memorial Union before retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Betty died on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville following a lingering illness at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 14 days. She is survived by3 daughters: Debbie (Jon) Schwartz of Chicago, Illinois; Nancy Romine of Coralville; and Marianne Dale of Iowa City; 3 grandchildren: Tony Schwartz, Leah Dale and Colin Schwartz; a sister: Annie (Gene) Ibbotson of Des Moines, Iowa; and a brother Edward Whalen Jr. of Gladstone, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00 PM on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman. Burial will be at a later date in the Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman.
