Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Overton, 85, of Mt. Pleasant died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at Lexington Square in Keokuk. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 beginning at 12 noon at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Father Mark Spring officiating. Interment will be at the Clay Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Iowa Hospice. Born July 30, 1926 in Colorado Springs, CO, Betty was the daughter of Aloysius Henry and Lucille Margaret (Schulte) Stuekerjuergen. She attended St. James School in St. Paul, IA. Later she attended business school in Burlington, IA. On June 19, 1951 she married Richard Jerrel Overton at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, IA. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1991. Betty worked at Drydens Manufacturing in Keokuk, IA. For 37 years she was a co-owner with her husband of the Iris Bowling Center in Mt. Pleasant. Betty was of the Catholic faith. She was a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed taking short trips with friends to casinos. Her hobbies included counted cross-stitch and crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include three children Vicki (Dana) Thompson of Keokuk, IA, Mark (Becky) Overton and Michael (Amy) Overton all of Mt. Pleasant; one brother Robert (Vivian) Stuekerjuergen of West Point, IA; two sisters Phyllis Frey of Niota, IL and Mary (Richard) Klesner of St. Paul, IA; three sister-in-laws Julia Stuekerjuergen of Houghton, IA, Rita Stuekerjuergen of Severville, TN and Nancy Stuekerjuergen of West Point, IA; seven grandchildren Matthew (Kristin) Overton, Ryan (Jacquie) Thompson, Michaela (J.L.) Baker, Jennafer (Jeramey) Seabold, and Haley, Christopher and Emma Overton; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Richard, Betty is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers James, Don and Paul Stuekerjuergen; and a brother-in-law James Frey.
