Betty Marie Wells

Betty Marie Wells, age 90, of Brooklyn, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 at Brooklyn Community Estate. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Betty is survived by her daughter Susie (Dan) Gleason, of Oskaloosa; a granddaughter Missy (DJ) Beck, of Grinnell; three great-grandchildren, Naveah, Ronan and Aspen; and two brothers, Roger (Loretta) Gritsch, of Brooklyn and Bob (Janice) Gritsch, of Brooklyn. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed; her parents, John and Lois Gritsch; two sisters, Marcia and Vivian; and a brother Willard.

Betty Gritsch was born May 2, 1931, north of Brooklyn on the family farm. She is the daughter of John and Lois (Dee) Gritsch. Betty graduated from Hartwick High School. She was united in marriage to William Edward “Ed” Wells on August 20, 1950. They farmed in various areas before moving back and making their home on the farm of which Betty was born on. Together, Betty and Ed continued the family farming tradition where Betty was very involved in raising crops and dairy cows. Aside from farming and being a mother, Betty also worked at Grinnell College for 20 plus years in the dining hall. She liked bowling, was a great cook and loved to bake and tend to her garden. Betty especially cherished her family and spending time with them.
