Betty Lou Stewart, age 90 of Marengo, passed away, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 24, 2021, St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. David Wilkening officiating. Visitation: 4:30–7:00 P.M. Monday, August 23, 2021, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with a Scripture Service at 4:00 P.M. Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

Betty is survived by her children, Barbara Ann (Frank) Robinson of Indianapolis, IN, Michael (Karen) Becker of Bertram, Timothy (Therese) Becker of Boise, ID, Carrie (Tim) Usher of Marengo, and Jason (Mandi) Becker also of Marengo; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Betty also is survived by siblings Shirley (Glen) Becker of Walker, and Lauretta Furler of Marengo. Betty raised over 30 foster children during her lifetime, many of whom remain very close to the family.

She was preceded in death by her birth father, Leonard Holst, who passed away when Betty was very young; her mother Adelaide Ginther Holst-King; her father who raised her, Virgil King; her husbands Albert John Becker, and Leo E. Stewart; a brother Leonard Holst; and several extended family members.

Betty Lou Holst was born March 11, 1931 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard Henry Holst and Adelaide Ginther Holst. She attended the country schools and Blairstown High School. Betty and Albert John Becker were united in marriage on August 3, 1948 in Norway, Iowa. The couple moved several times during their early marriage, eventually settling in Marengo. Betty was employed at Pioneer Seed, Collins Radio, Square D, several restaurants, including the Landmark and Trucker’s Inn. Lastly she worked at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Albert passed away in 1991. Betty later married Leo E. Stewart in 1996. He passed away October 8, 1998.

Betty was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, the Altar and Rosary Guild, and the Marengo Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours to the Meals on Wheels program and Senior Dining. She enjoyed doll-making, crocheting, and many crafts. She loved to go camping, dancing, and go-kart racing. Betty was an avid bowler for many years.
