Keswick-Betty Jean Shafranek was born July 13, 1940 in Humboldt, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Arlene(Case) Anderson. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1957. Jean was united in marriage to Charles Shafranek on July 18, 1981 at the Millersburg United Methodist Church in Millersburg. After their marriage the couple lived on the farm near Keswick for a number of years before moving into town in 1991. Jean work for 20 plus years at the Amana Refrigeration, then later the English Valley Care Center and the Thrift Shop in North English. She was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church and the Legion Auxiliary in Keswick. Jean enjoyed talking with her family and friends and traveling. Jean died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a brief illness at the age of 66 years. She is survived by her husband Charles; four sons: Mike (Carmen) Schulze of Grinnell, Dale (Laurie) Schulze of Phoenix, AZ, Dennis Schulze of Marengo and Mitchell (Margaret) Schulze of Indianola; a daughter: Ronda Long of Longview, TX; ten grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; three sisters: Wanda Anderson of Brawley, CA, Sonia Davis of Badger, IA and Becky Anderson of Seattle, WA and a brother: Don (Judy)Anderson of Marion and a number ov nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three grandsons. Celebration of Life Service will be 1:30 Sunday, December 31, 2006 at the Millersburg United Methodist Church in Millersburg. Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery near Keswick. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm and the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English.
