North English- Betty Jean Noel, was born January 21, 1928, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Lawrence Albert & Elizabeth Hazel (Kimmel) Miller. She graduated from North English High School in 1945 and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa. On February12, 1949, Betty married Carl Edward Noel in Iowa City. Together they owned and operated Noel Pharmacy. Betty was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, where she was active in UMW, she also served on the North English Library Board for 24 years. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, sewing and doing crossword puzzles. Betty died on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her children: Christine Noel of Newton, Jon (Darla) Noel of Iowa City and Richard (Patricia) Noel of St. Louis, MO; 4 grandchildren: Eric Noel, Becky Noel, Matt (Nikki) Noel and Daniel (Mineko) Noel; 2 great grandchildren: Leo Noel and Eli Noel; and a sister Joyce Denslow of North English. She was preceded by her parents, husband in 1975; and a brother: Dr. Larry Miller II. Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the North English Cemetery. Rev. Michelle Williamson will officiate. Memorials may be given to the North English Library. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
