Betty J. Schlesselman was born June 21, 1923, in Monroe, Michigan the daughter of William and Estelle (Berthelote) DeGraff. She graduated from Monroe High School. On November 22, 1944, she was united in marriage to John I. Schlesselman in Iowa City. They were married 60 years. They lived in the Williamsburg community where Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and a volunteer for the Large Print. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and friends. Betty died on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Windmill Manor in Coralville following a brief illness at the age of 83 years. Betty is survived by two sons - Jim Schlesselman of Cedar Rapids; Tom Schlesselman and wife Jan of Freeport, Illinois; and three grandchildren - Ben, Amy and Micah. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John on February 8, 2005; and two sisters - Marie Fry and Margaret DeGraff. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30 am on Friday, April 27, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Williamsburg, with Pastor Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial with be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
