Betty Diane White was born on November 16, 1959, in Atlantic, IA., the daughter of Vernon and Cora Roe Swolley. She attended school in Riverside and Wellman. On June 9, 1980 she married Raymond Westfall. He preceded her in death. On March 15, 1997, Betty married Richard White at their home near Wellman. Betty enjoyed playing cards, playing on the computer and country music. She died suddenly Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Betty lived 50 years, 1 month and 24 days. She is survived by her husband Richard White of Wellman, sons: Ethan White of Wellman, IA and Shannon Leggett of Moscow, IA; daughters Jessie Ruggles and Misty Gingerich both of Keota; 9 grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Andresen, Karen Johnson, Nancy Wells, Chris Freland, Cathy Zimmerman, Mary Swolley & Donna Cline; a brother William Swolley; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Carol Jayne, Sandra Swolley & Linda Van Voltenburg, and her first husband Raymond Westfall. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 13, 2009, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman. Chaplain Carroll Yoder will officiate. Visitation will be from noon on Wednesday until service time at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established.
