Betty J. Breazeale, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Savannah Heights in Mt. Pleasant.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Kyle Noll officiating. Burial will be held in Forest Home Cemetery. Born June 2, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, Betty Jean was the daughter of Robert Cooley and Gladys Mae (McKenzie) Hills. She was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On January 1, 1955, she married Ralph Thomas Breazeale at the Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. For twenty years, Betty was a salesclerk at Martha Brown. Following the store closure, she worked at Spurgeons and ended her working career as a cook for Mt. Pleasant School District.
Above all, Betty was a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, making family her highest priority. She enjoyed flower gardening, mowing the yard, baking, and collecting cookbooks. Betty was always ready to lend a hand when needed by family or friends. As a child Betty attended First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church. When her children were growing up, Betty went with them to Oakland Mills Church, near their home. In recent years, she attended Cedar Creek Friends Church. Betty was a member of Stitch N Chatter, Oakland Mills Ladies Aid, Questers, and Salem Square Dance Club.
Along with her loving husband, Ralph, of 63 years, Betty is survived by a son, Robert (Sandy) Breazeale of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter, Barb (Terry) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA; five grandchildren, Becca Breazeale, Rachel (Roy) Manfredi, Nick (Gina) Smith, Marcus (Katy) Smith and Karissa (Brandon) Fleming; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Hills of Cedar Rapids, IA. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Stella, and Griffin Manfredi, Henry and Violet Smith, and Millie Fleming.
Betty was preceded death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Hills; and a brother, Robert Hills.
