Betty Binning

Betty L. Binning, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Park Place Elder Living.

According to her wishes, Bettys body has been donated to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine Deeded Body Program. A family service is being planned for a later date. Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant has assisted the family with arrangements. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Born January 16, 1928, in Sioux City, IA, Betty Lou was the daughter of Ellis and Mildred Kaump Jacobs. She was a 1946 graduate of Central High School in Sioux City. On November 8, 1946, Betty married William Port in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1982. She later married Robert Binning in Omaha, NE. The couple lived in Atwood, KS. Following his death in 2010, Betty moved to Mt. Pleasant to be near her family.

For many years Betty worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Russell Lester in the Estherville. She was a member of Dental Associates of Iowa, Red Hat Society, and was a hospice volunteer while living in Kansas. Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Estherville and served as a deacon and treasurer at Atwood Christian Church. While living in Mt. Pleasant, she was associated with First Presbyterian Church.

Caring for her family and supporting them in their activities was Bettys highest priority. She made prayer shawls, enjoyed gardening and canning, and traveled extensively.

Betty is survived by a son, William (Theresa) Port of Detroit, MI; four daughters, Sally Port (William Griese) of Dolliver, IA, Sue Ann Boyd of Grand Saline, TX, Pamela (Gary) Cushman of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Penny Wright of Wichita, KS; and a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Port of Albion, IA. She is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren, along with their children and grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husbands, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Brent Port; a sister, Bonnie Harrison; and two grandchildren.
