Bessie A. “Kandi” Griffith, age 75, of Brooklyn, passed away at her home Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Memorial Service: 5:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Visitation: 2-5 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. For those attending the service, in honor of Kandi, and her wishes, please wear bright colors. Memorials may be contributed to the family in Kandi’s name.
Kandi is survived by her husband Dan; her children, Tony Griffith of North Liberty, Michele (Judd) Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD., Annie (Archie) Hall of Victor, and Bill Griffith of Brooklyn; 11 grandchildren, Cassie (JD) Griggs, Nick, Preston, Tyler, and Kyle Griffith, Ashley (Joe) Verdeck, Kaylin, Karah, and Ainsley Hansen, Brock (Destany) Hall and Brody Hall; seven great-grandchildren, Brayden and Addie Griggs, Alex and Jake Griffith, and August, Abram, and Mackson Verdeck. Kandi is also survived by her siblings, Jim Schultz, Katy (Mark) Schultz, Richard Schultz, and Linda Schultz; her in-laws, Dick Griffith, Sue Griffith, Charles “Short” (Robin) Griffith, Kris (Jerome) Sass, Anne (Jim) Manatt, Jim Griffith, Fred (Glenda) Griffith, John (Lisa) Griffith, Dale (Candace) Griffith, and Sally (Mark) Hawkins; and countless nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Ann Schultz; her father and mother-in-law Fred and Frances Griffith and her grandson Smoke Danials Griffith.
Bessie Ann Schultz was born July 12, 1946, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Ann (O’Laughlin) Schultz. She graduated from Gilman High School in 1964. Kandi was united in marriage to Danny L. Griffith on November 29, 1969, in Grinnell, Iowa. The couple made their home in Brooklyn. Kandi worked for Y & M Hardware, Char-Du, and was a cashier at Brooklyn 80 and the Pilot. She also worked as a CNA for Friendship Manor in Grinnell. Kandi served as an EMT on the Brooklyn Ambulance Service. She enjoyed playing cards and was a geology enthusiast. Kandi loved spending time with her family and taking excursions with her sister, Linda. She especially loved taking long haul trucking trips with Dan. They traveled to many beautiful places- sometimes being gone for months at a time. Kandi will be missed by many.
