WELLMAN - Bertha Snodgrass was born January 13, 1908 near What Cheer, Iowa the daughter of Herman and Madge (Slaven) King. She attended What Cheer schools. On February 13, 1927 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Maxwell Snodgrass at his parents home in Keswick. She has lived in Iowa and California throughout her life and has lived in Wellman since 1981. She worked in housekeeping at the University of Iowa Hospital for many years. She was a 75 year member of the Royal Neighbors. Bertha died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a sudden illness at the age of 96 years. Bertha is survived by a son - Lawrence "Bob" Snodgrass of Iowa City; 2 daughters - Helen Snyder and husband Laverne of Red Oak; Carol Butterfield and husband Les of Mountain Home, Arkansas; 2 daughters-in-law Elizabeth Snodgrass of Mount Vernon, Missouri; Arlene Snodgrass of California; 21 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in April of 1997; a daughter and son-in-law Norma and Clarence Ross; 2 sons - Richard Snodgrass and John Snodgrass; a daughter-in-law Billie Snodgrass; and 3 brothers. It was Bertha's request that her body be donated to the University of Iowa. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Bailey Cemetery in rural Keswick. The Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
