Bertha E. Wiseman, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Park Place Elder Living.
A rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant. The family will greet friends following the rosary until 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, March 11, 2019, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with Reverend Paul Connolly celebrating. Born September 18, 1926, in Laurens, IA, Bertha Ellen was the daughter of Lyman and Arlene (Burroughs) George. She was a 1945 graduate of Laurens High School. Bertha married Marvin Cecil Wiseman on March 11, 1946, in Pocahontas, IA. The couple lived there for seventeen years. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1999.
A wife, mother, and grandmother, Bertha spent her life making her family her highest priority. For ten years, she lived in Ft. Madison and worked at the Iowa Ammunition Plant. Following retirements, she was a home health worker.
Moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1973, Bertha became a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Bertha enjoyed playing cards, Dominoes, and Bingo, along with painting the wood crafts her husband made.
Those sharing in Berthas life are five children, Carroll (Ed) Zahn of Fairhope, AL, Tom (Shari) Wiseman of Lake Forest, IL, Mary (Michael) Borders of Kennesaw, GA, Peggy (Marty) Smith of Clarksville, TN, and Marlene (Bob) Donnolly of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter-in-law, Janice Campbell of Ft. Madison, IA; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband, Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Wiseman; and a granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Donnolly. She was also preceded in death by five siblings, William, Lorene, Marjorie, Ada, and Nornie.
