Bertha Burck was born on July 24, 1921 near Montezuma, IA, the daughter of Warren and Anna Snider Tish. She grew up in the Montezuma community and attended school in Montezuma. On January 31, 1938, Bertha was united in marriage to Ralph Carl Burck in Montezuma. They lived on a farm near Millersburg and owned a salvage business. In 1951 they moved into Millersburg and in 1956 started Burck Tire. Bertha co-owned the business and retired along with Ralph in 1976. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Millersburg. Bertha died following a long illness on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. She lived 84 years, 2 months and 25 days. She is survived by a son Larry Burck and his wife Maxine of Millersburg, IA; a daughter Janice Taylor and her husband Robert of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren: Debby Schmidt and her husband Robert of Deep River, IA; David Burck of Deep River, IA; Dan Burck and his wife Kris of Millersburg, IA; Andrew Taylor and his wife Jenny of Portland, OR; Amber Braunschweig and husband Robert of Madrid, IA; twelve great grandchildren: Chad and Brandon Schmidt of Deep River; Quinn and Gage Burck of Deep River; Miranda and Spencer Burck of Millersburg; Cody, Colton, Devin and Saryna Braunschweig of Madrid; Abigail and Zachary Taylor of Portland, OR; Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and her husband Ralph in July 2002. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 22, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millersburg with the Rev. Thomas Shumaker officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, October 21,2005, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Trinity Lutheran Church Stained Glass Window Fund and the English Valley Care Center.
