Williamsburg-Berniece Caroline K. Hinrichs Maas was born February 23, 1917 in Lincoln Township, Iowa County, the daughter of Christian F. Eliese Wacker Hinrichs. She was baptized on March 18, 1917 and confirmed on March 29, 1931 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Victor. She attended St. John's Lutheran School near Victor and graduated from Guernsey High School in 1935. Berniece was united in marriage to Herbert Henry Maas on November 29, 1936 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Victor. The couple lived and farmed many years near Homestead until 1990 when they moved to Williamsburg. In Aril of 1999 they moved to Colonial Manor in Amana. They enjoyed traveling, playing card and being with family and friends. Berniece was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and had served on the Ladies Aid, St. John's Choir and LWML. Berniece died Friday, November 4, 2005 at the Colonial Manor in Amana after a long illness at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 12 days. She is survived by a son: Marvin (Sharon) Maas of Mesa, Arizona; two daughters: Lois (Lee) Bair of Solon and Marcella (Allan) Doehrmann of Williamsburg; 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; two brothers: Gary (Janis) Hinrichs of Marengo and Edmund (Ruth) Hinrichs of Fairmont, Minnesota; two sister-in-laws: Vivian Hinrichs of Williamsburg and Janet Hinrichs of Ankey and a brother-in-law: Ervin Koehn of Marengo. Berniece is preceded in death by her parents, husband Herb in 2000; three brothers: Chris, Bert and Reiny Hinrichs and a sister Elizabeth Koehn. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. Pastor Wayne Woolery will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
