Berniece Calhoun

Berniece M. (Marc) Calhoun, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 19, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Pastor Ken Barlow officiating. A memorial fund has been established by the family. Born April 3, 1921, Berniece Marcelean was the daughter of Ray J. and Leota Archibald Ford. She attended Mt. Pleasant Community Schools. On September 8, 1939, Berniece married George W. Calhoun in Ft. Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1987. She worked at the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute for fifteen years in laundry and as a nurses aide. Berniece enjoyed attending yard sales and collecting dolls. She especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Calhoun is survived by three daughters, Carolyn K. (Clarence) Stearns, Dianna Miller, and Janice D. (Ron) Bush all of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and one daughter-in-law, Dee Calhoun also of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, George, Berniece was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Norman Calhoun, three sisters, and one brother. Also she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter.
