Williamsburg-Bernice Mae Roemig was born November 20, 1925 near Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Friemund and Mina Hudepohl Newkirk. She graduated from Immanuel parochial school in 1940 and the Williamsburg High School in 1944. After graduated she worked at home with her sister Regina, and helped their father farm. She was a active 4-H leader for 5 years and has worked at Zuber's and the Ox Yoke. She attended business college in Cedar Rapids. Then worked for Melvin Witte Law Office a few years. She was also active in being a teachers aide at the Lutheran Interparish School and a Sunday School Teacher. Bernice was united in marriage to William Roemig October 8, 1970 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide and enjoyed playing card with her card club. Bernice died Friday, June 17, 2005 at the English Valley Care Center in North English after a short illness at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 28 days. She is survived by her husband William Roemig of Williamsburg and a number of cousins and friends. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents and a sister Regina. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Officiating will be Pastor Richard Meyer. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
