HARPER-Bernard M. Redlinger, age 95, of Harper, died on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Maplewood Manor in Keota. Bernard Michael Redlinger was born on August 5, 1917, near Harper, Iowa, the son of John and Clara (Sondag) Redlinger. He grew up in the Harper community and attended St. Elizabeth School in Harper. He served in the US Army during World War II. Bernard married Alice Elizabeth Fritz on June 15, 1943 at St. Joseph Church in East Pleasant Plain. Following marriage they made their home in the Harper community where he farmed until his retirement in 1985. Bernard was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. He became a resident of Maplewood Manor in August 2009. He lived 95 years and 9 months. Survivors include five daughters: Carol (Kenneth) Kurtz of Brighton, Marjorie (Tom) Weeber of Iowa City, Mary Ann (Craig) Sevcik of Solon, Karen Sue Kennedy of Cedar Rapids and Linda (Randy) Richardson of Keota, three sons: William (Beverly) Redlinger of Des Moines, Robert Redlinger of Marion and Bernard (Madeline) Redlinger of Colorado Springs, CO;; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister: Virginia (Ginny) O'Donnell of Iowa City; one brother: John V. Redlinger of Solon, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Alice in 2004; sisters: Leola Redlinger and Mary Greiner and three brothers: James, Alvin and Cletus Redlinger. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013, 2013, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 5:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association or Macular Degeneration Research.
