KEOTA-Bernadine M. Sieren, age 90, of Keota, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Bernadine was born May 17, 1921, near Harper, Iowa, to Carl and Loretta (Clarahan) Beinhart and graduated from St. Elizabeth Catholic High School. On August 20, 1940, she married Elmer Sieren at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. The couple lived in the Harper community until moving to Keota in 1980. Bernadine enjoyed her new life in her villa in Lone Tree since May of this year, especially playing Bingo and dominoes. Bernadine was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards, cooking and baking, gardening and canning, growing flowers, mowing her lawn, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include four children: Carol Ann Kaalberg and husband Gayle of West Liberty, Sharon Sieren and husband Larry Galau of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Daniel Sieren and wife Mary of Harper and Cindy Johnson and husband Donald of Fenton, Missouri; daughter-in-law: Eloise Sieren of Keota; 14 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; two brothers: Keith Beinhart of Sigourney and Robert "Bob" Beinhart of Harper and one sister: Betty Adam of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Ronald and four sisters: Helen Pence, Theola Beinhart, Claudine Flander and Burnita Sieren. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established.
