Deep River-Belva A. Seaton Shaull was born October 7, 1916, on a farm southeast of Keswick, the daughter of Alva and Olive Winegarden Seaton. She attended Keswick grade school and graduated from Keswick High School in 1933. She attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught five years in the rural schools in Keokuk and Iowa Counties. On March 4, 1939, she married Melvin Martin Shaull by Rev. Hl Cole at the Methodist Parsonage in Osceola. They farmed in Iowa County, bought the Shaull family farm, put up a new house and moved there in the fall of 1976. Besides farming they raised cattle, hogs and sheep. They were a 4-H family. Belva was a 4-H leader of the Dayton Darlings for 12 years and later judged at various 4-H county meetings. She worked with the Farm Bureau Women and taught sewing classes in Williamsburg. She enjoyed sewing, working in her yard and flower beds. Belva was a member of the Keswick United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and the Keswick United Methodist Prayer Group. She taught Sunday School classes, was Laity Leader and served on the church board. Melvin died September 8, 1986. Belva continued to live on the farm with the help of her good neighbors and friends. In October of 2002 she moved to the English Valleys Care Center, where she died on December 9, 2005, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 2 days. Survivors include five children: Alene K. Shaull of Chicago, IL, Keith Shaull and wife Gloria of Lewis Center, OH, Martha Westerberg of Arlington Heights, IL, Harvey Shaull and wife Jan of Hampton and David Shaull and wife Vivian of Middletown, RI; 10 grandchildren: Jennie Shaull of Lewis Center, OH, Hollie Fish and husband Marcus of Grove City, PA, Steven Shaull of Lewis Center, OH; Stephanie Thielen and husband Todd of Firestone, CO, Matthew Harstad of Westmont, IL, Jason Shaull of Charles City, IA, Nicholas Shaull of Tucson, AZ, Derrick Shaull and wife Heather of Fairfield, IA, Rebecca Shaull and Gregory Shaull of Middletown, RI; one great granddaughter: Madelyn Fish of Grove City, PA; two sisters: Ava Calvert of Barnes City and Margaret Calvert of Thornburg and a sister-in-law: Doris Axmear of Keswick. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, George, and two sisters, Mabel Husband and Arvena Sumers. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at the Keswick United Methodist Church in Keswick. Pastors Dick Smith, Don Ridenour and Jim Stout will officiate. Burial will be at the Sorden Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, December 12, 2005 from 4 to 7 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. A memorial fund has been established for the Keswick United Methodist Church or the English Valleys Care Center.
