KALONA - Bedonna Lee Bachmann was born August 16, 1936 in Gilman City, Missouri, the daughter of Robert and Vyda (Real) Gutshall. She graduated from Gilman City High School and attended Southwest Missouri Baptist College and Northeast Missouri Teachers College. On November 30, 1957 she was united in marriage to Fred Bachmann in Gilman City, Missouri. They lived in Kirksville and Palmyra, Missouri before moving to Iowa City. They have lived in rural Kalona for the last 3 years. Bedonna worked for the University of Iowa Exam Service for 10 years. She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. She enjoyed sharing her home with others and entertained many guests through the years, and was also known for sending birthday cards. Bedonna passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 82 years.
Bedonna is survived by her husband Fred of Kalona, 3 daughters: Karma (Joel) Brokaw of Kalona, Linda (Mike) Inlow of Moorpark, California, Brenda Bachmann Peterson of Hudson, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren: Justin (Ranee) Brokaw, Kidron (Kenton) Miller, Jeremy (Micaela) Brokaw, Jordan (Holly) Brokaw, Jackson Brokaw, Keilah (Shelby) Graber, Kaylin Brokaw, Jennifer Inlow, Julie Inlow, Lindsey (Matt) Quinn, Megan (Ben) Hine, Michele (Ben) Johnson; 14 great grandchildren: Luke, Tessa, Hudson, Ezra and Olive Brokaw, Mira, Mateo and Maylee Miller, Sutton Brokaw, Anastasia Brokaw, Ella and Kingston Quinn, Taelyn and Ryland Hines; and a sister Phyllis Appleby of Nashville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Bill Gutshall, a sister Patricia Shaw, and 2 brothers-in-law Bob Appleby and Paul Shaw.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson and Pastor Steve Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-6 PM on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church for Multiply Ministry and Water For Life.
