Beatrice Kay Strief, age 76, of Marengo, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in her home. Memorial service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019, Vinton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 307 North K Avenue, Vinton, Iowa, with Tim Hainey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Hall. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Beatrice is survived by her husband Roger of 57 years; two daughters Lisa (Ellis) Mansfield, of Moncure, NC and Wendy (James) Kaplan, of Marengo; a grandson Allen “A.J” Straka, of Ladora; two great-grandchildren Aurora and Ayden Straka, of Ladora; two siblings Paul Colton, of Williamsburg and Asenath (Peter) Kern, of British Columbia, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Beatrice Colton was born May 25, 1943, in Oelwein, the daughter of Clyde and Lillian (Hoyer) Colton. She graduated from Lamont High School. Beatrice married Roger Allen Strief on November 17, 1962 in Oelwein. She enjoyed babysitting and later started farming alongside her husband taking care of dairy cows, and hogs as well as crops until the farm sold. Beatrice and Roger were the custodians of the county offices in Marengo as well as the city library. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s witnesses in 1958, and loved reading the Bible every day. Beatrice enjoyed working with Roger in their wood crafting business, Roger & Bea’s. She loved collecting rocks and shells, coloring, going to garage sales and traveling. She especially loved all cats.
