Basil Rose

Basil Rose, 96, of Lecanto, Florida, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, in Florida. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Hospice of Citrus County. Born August 17, 1919 in Fox River Township, Davis County, IA, Basil Laverne was the son of Frank and Cora Avis (Coop) Rose. He attended a country school in Davis County. In 1942, he married Roberta Rutliff in Kirksville, MO. She passed away in 1972. He then married Jeanne Pohlson in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She passed away July 24, 2003. As a young adult, Basil worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp. He also held positions with Pioneer in the Quad Cities, the Iowa Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, IA, Trailways Bus where he worked as a mechanic and driver, BF Goodrich, and he worked as a mechanic for DJ Martin. He retired from Colonial Baking Company in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Upon retirement, Basil worked in maintenance at the PEO Home and delivered cars for Shottenkirk. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Mt. Pleasant Little League. Basil attended Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Survivors include three children, Roger (Mary) Rose of Wickenburg, AZ, Shirley (Jim) Knorr of Pleasant Plains, IL, and Donna (Don) Simmons of Lecanto, FL; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great, great grandchildren; a sister, Doris (Arel) Hulen of Ottumwa, IA; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Rose, of Mt. Pleasant, IA. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives; 4 brothers, Loyd, Robert, Donald, and Dean Rose; and 1 sister, Vonda Long.
