Barbara Kay Semler was born April 12, 1946 in Grinnell, Iowa the daughter of Robert and Maxine (Barnes) Parris. She graduated form Columbus Community High School and Iowa Wesleyan College. On April 26, 1968 she was united in marriage to Keith Semler at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman. They have lived in the Wellman community since their marriage. Barb was a school teacher for 34 years, teaching in the Mid-Prairie School District for 33 years before retiring in 2004. After her retirement she did substitute teaching and tutoring. She was an active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, where she served on various committee's, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School and Bible School. Barb died on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Parkview Manor in Wellman from complications of diabetes at the age of 61 years. Barb is survived by her husband Keith of Wellman; a daughter Julie Stirm and husband Eric of Thornton, Colorado; a son Joe Semler of Wellman; a grandson Joshua Stirm; her father Robert M. Parris and wife Betty of Wedowee, Alabama; and a brother - Tim Parris and wife Terri of Tiffin. She was preceded in death by her mother Maxine and her twin sister Sue Schweiker.
A memorial fund has been established for Asbury United Methodist Church and Wellman Ambulance.
