Barbara Henderson

Barbara Joan Henderson was born February 9, 1927 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Mildred (Pierce) Crossett. She graduated from Washington High School in 1945. On August 27, 1947 she was united in marriage to Eury Henderson in Washington. They have lived in the Wellman community since their marriage, where Barbara taught school for 5 years and then worked for the United States Postal Service as a clerk for 17 years and then as a rural route carrier for 13 years. She was the first woman rural route carrier in Washington County. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron and was an Instructor. She enjoyed to travel, watching wildlife, and flower gardens. Barbara died on Friday, November 28, 2014 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 87 years.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband Eury of Wellman; a sister Rachel Pillar of Monticello, Minnesota; and 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother James Crossett.


Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Wellman Cemetery in Wellman. Rev. Moody Colorado will officiate. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established for the Washington County Humane Society. The Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
