SIGOURNEY-Barbara Jean Hart, age 98, of Sigourney, died Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
Barbara was born October 12, 1926, in rural Zearing, Iowa, the daughter of Patrick and Margaret (Peddicord) Carmody. She graduated from Zearing High School and attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri for one year. On February 23, 1947, she married Norval K. Hart in Pullman, Washington. They lived in many different locations until moving to Sigourney in 1961. Norval and Barbara divorced in 1975. On January 18, 1986, she married Arthur Eugene Hart in Sigourney. Barbara worked at Washington State University for one year and the Sigourney News-Review office for 20 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Sigourney Christian Church and enjoyed traveling, needlework and wintering in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Survivors include six children: Steven (Sheila) Hart of Centennial, Colorado, Rebecca (Lee) Lambert of Abilene, Texas, Barbara James of Benton, Arkansas, Jennifer Stokes of Ottumwa, Micaela (Dave) Klein of Sigourney and Patrick (Stephanie) Hart of Ottumwa; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one sister: Ardella Untrauer of Sigourney. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Arthur in 2012; four sisters: Verda Holveck, Velma Sedlak, Isabelle Jones and Mary Lou Johnson and two sons-in-law: Morris James and Leif Stokes.
Memorial graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Pennington Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
