Ashley Mullen

Ashley N. Smith Mullen, 23, of Durant, IA, died unexpectedly in her sleep, Sunday, June 24, 2012, while camping in Davenport, IA. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 28, at Faith Christian Outreach Church, 1302 East Washington Street, Mount Pleasant, IA. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, June 29, at the church, with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. The Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant has been entrusted with the care of Ashley and her family. Born July 15, 1988, in Charlotte, NC, Ashley Nicole was the daughter of Stephen L. and Teri L. Campbell Smith. She was home schooled and graduated in 2006. While completing her education at home, Ashley began taking classes at Southeastern Community College. In 2007, she completed her A.A. degree in Early Childhood Development. On May 21, 2011, she married Ryan Lee Mullen at Faith Christian Outreach Church. Using her knowledge of and love for children, Ashley was a nanny following graduation. She designed and sold children's clothing under her own label, Lollipops and Polka Dots. She then was a bank teller at Two Rivers Bank in Burlington and for the past year worked at Central State Bank in Wilton. After falling in love with Ryan, Ashley became fond of the outdoors. She came to love camping, walking, fishing, and duck hunting. She enjoyed riding four wheelers and target shooting with her husband. She also liked shopping and photography. Ashley worked in the church nursery and doted on her niece, Kristina. Along with her husband of Durant, IA, and parents of New London, IA, Ashley is survived by a brother, Jordan Smith of New London, IA; a sister, Victoria Smith of New London, IA; and in-laws, Rick and Linda Mullen of Wilton, IA. She is survived by grandparents, Judy and Bill Vandersall of New London, IA, and James and Sandra Smith of Danville, IA; along with an uncle and cousin, Chris and Kaitlin Smith of New London, IA. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Levon (Lisa) Mullen of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a sister-in-law and niece, Raechel and Kristina Mullen of Pella, IA; and grandparents-in-law, Jack and Lois Halterman of Indianola, IA. Ashley was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dale and Alice Campbell, and great-grandparents, Tommy and Catherine Dunn.
