SIGOURNEY-Arthur Eugene Hart, age 91, of Sigourney, died Friday, February 3, 2012, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Art was born October 6, 1920, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Jesse Roy and Ida May (Patterson) Hart and graduated from Corydon High School in 1938. Art served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served from 1942-1946 as a B-17 pilot Flying Fortress, Airplane Commander B-29 and Fortress American Theater. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1948. On August 13, 1943, he married Mary Lois Lane. She preceded him in death. Art worked for Northern Indiana Public Service Company in engineering, supervising and management positions for 38 years, retiring in 1986, when he returned to Iowa. He married Barbara Jean Carmody on January 18, 1986. He served in numerous organizations, boards and volunteer assignments. Survivors include his wife: Barbara Hart of Sigourney; three children: Laurie Hart of Athens, GA, Paul Hart of Arcadia, CA and Phillip Hart of Chicago, IL; step children: Steven (Sheila) Hart of Centennial, CO, Rebecca (Lee) Lambert of Abelene, TX, Barbara (Morris) James of Evening Shade, AR; Jennifer (Leif) Stokes of Ottumwa, Micaela (David) Klein of Sigourney and Patrick (Deb) Hart of Ottumwa; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother: Norval Hart of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Lois; a sister: Helen Snyder and a son: Jack Hart. Private family services will be held. There will be no visitation. Burial of cremated remains will be at Corydon Cemetery in Corydon, Iowa, at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney Elementary School.
