On Wednesday, November 2, 2005, in the company of his wife and family, death quietly entered the room of and gently closed the life of one who has been husband, father, brother, neighbor and friend - Mr. Arnold Ray Hudson age 69. He was born the youngest son of Lawrence and Thelma (Perrin) Hudson on May 31, 1936 near Wellman. "Ray" as he was lovingly known, grew to manhood in the Wellman and North English area, and spent his entire life in and around this community. It can be said he never met a stranger, and never turned away anyone in need of time and caring. Ray first married, Betty Louise Bell, and to this union was born a son, Charles Dwain Hudson, who preceded his father in death, August 21, 1994. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Collett on November 20, 1959 in Wellman, and they have happily spent 46 years together, living in the Wellman and Kalona area. Evelyn will greatly miss his loving caring ways. Ray worked at the University of Iowa in the custodial department and later at the Kalona Sale Barn. Ray is survived by his wife Evelyn of Wellman; two brothers - Gerald Hudson and wife Joyce of Stevensville, Montana; Vernon "Dick" Hudson of South English; two sisters - Maxine Stagner of Columbus Junction, Arlene Parsons and husband Glen of Luther, Oklahoma; his mother-in-law Lemira Collett of Williamsburg; 3 sisters-in-law Johnette Hudson of Keswick; Beverly VanDee and husband Mike of Cedar Rapids; Wanda VanDee and husband Ed of Marion; and many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a son Chuck; two brothers - Gene Hudson and Tom Hudson; his step father - Ivan Enfield; and his father-in-law Raymond Collett.
