KALONA - Arlis Stumpf was born January 5, 1927 near Kalona, Iowa the son of Harold and Sarah (Dawson) Stumpf. He attended school at Holy Trinity in Richmond. He served in the United States Army during WWII. On April 11, 1964 he was united in marriage to Sharon Malichky at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. They have lived in the Kalona community since their marriage. Arlis was a lifelong expert semi driver earning many safety awards. He drove for Western Transportation, Acme Transport, and later for Haines Transport until hi retirement. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music, watching television and visiting with his friends. Arlis died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a courageous battle with a long term illness. He was 84 years old. Arlis is survived by his wife Sharon of Kalona; a brother James Stumpf of Tacoma, WA; four sisters - Marge Snyder of Kalona; Marilyn Charbonneaux of Napa, CA; Jane Cannon of Oregon; Mrs Dayle (Joanne) Chalupa of Kalona; a two sisters-in-law Joan Kleopfer of Kalona; Jeanne Malichky of Riverside and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter Alicia on August 29, 2009, and a brother Thomas. A Prayer Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Rev. Rich Adam will officiate. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday at the Funeral Home. A general memorial fund has been established.
