SIGOURNEY-Iris "Arlene" (Erdman) Martin, 95, of Sigourney, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney, where she had resided since May, 2004. Arlene was born June 27, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Faith (Alexander) Erdman, near Pekin, Iowa. She graduated from Martinsburg High School and Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. Arlene married Harold Martin and they became the parents of 6 children. They lived in the Martinsburg and Ollie communities until purchasing their farm south of Sigourney. After the death of her husband in July, 1986, she moved to Sigourney. She was a member of the Sigourney Christian Church and Chapter L. P.E.O. Survivors include three sons: Darrell (Linda) Martin of San Antonio, Texas, Warren Martin of Oskaloosa and Wayne (Maria) Martin of Minneapolis; two daughters: Mary Ann Jaacks of Marion and Marjorie Lamb of Clive; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and daughter-in-law: Jone Martin. Preceding her in death besides her husband, include her parents; a son, Clair; a sister, Mary Long and a brother in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Sigourney Christian Church, with Pastor Jim Bringman officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Arlene's memory.
