Arlene Leichty, 84, of Wayland, IA, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4th at the Bethel Mennonite Church north of Wayland. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. that evening. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5th. A funeral service will follow the committal at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Mennonite Church with Pastor Curt Kuhns officiating. Memorials have been established for the Bethel Mennonite Church and the Klein Center. On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born April 2, 1932, in Wayland, IA, Gladys Arlene was the daughter of William and Mabel (Roth) Conrad. She was a graduate of Wayland High School. On August 26, 1951, she was united in marriage to Daniel Leichty at Bethel Mennonite Church. He preceded Arlene in death on September 28, 2012. A lifelong resident of Wayland, Arlene was a receptionist for the office of Dr. Carl Reschly for seven years and served as the receptionist for Dr. J.G. Widmer's office until her retirement. Arlene was an active member of Bethel Mennonite Church. She participated in Sunday School, Bible School, the Women's Sewing Group and the Food Committee. An avid quilter, Arlene was also known as a great seamstress and always maintained a bountiful garden. The work of the Wycliffe Bible Translators was very important to Arlene. She was also a member of the Winnie Corns Winnebago Club. For many years, she worked on the ground train at Midwest Old Threshers. Her favorite activity was caring for her family; especially her grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Lonnie (Wendy) Leichty of Wayland, IA; a daughter, Lora (Gene) Stauffer of Burlington, IA; three brothers, Merle Conrad of Sarasota, FL, Russell (Violet) Conrad of Salesville, AR, and Ernie (Flora) Conrad of Adair, OK; and three sisters, Lucille (Allen) Wagler of Kalona, IA, Pauline (Don) Hoffman of Worland, WY and Emma Jean (John) Woodward of Canon City, CO. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Luke, Jordan, Jamie, Joni, Angela, Bethany and Danielle; and eleven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death, were her parents; her husband, Daniel; and a son, Dean Leichty.
