WASHINGTON-Ann Elizabeth Helscher Romigh, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at the Washington County Hospital. Mrs. Romigh, was born September 13, 1914, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Margaret (Braunhausen) Helscher. She graduated from Coe College and taught English and Drama at North Liberty High School in North Liberty, Iowa. On July 31, 1947 she married Lou Romigh in Sigourney. The couple spent most of their married lives in the Chicago area, moving to Largo, Florida in 1980. In 2001 she moved to Washington, to live in Halcyon House and be near her extended family. Ann was an active member of the Anona Methodist Church in Largo. She also was a long-standing member of the PEO sisterhood and a community volunteer. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, David Helscher of Roanoke, Virginia; Victoria Meleski of Reston, Virginia, Suzanne Martin of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, and Thomas Helscher of Pacific Palisades, California; 12 grand-nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Lou in 1995 and brother: Charles Cannon in 1999. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Washington Public Library. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
