Andrej Gelement

KALONA - Andrej Semenovich Gelement was born June 18, 1937 in Haboviche, Belarus, the son of Semen Semenovich and Irina Sarlevna Gelement. On November 7, 1962 he was united in marriage to Nina Zholnerchuk. They moved to the United States on August 17, 1989. Andrej worked at Country Lane and later at JK Creative Wood. He enjoyed reading, fishing, farming, studying the bible and spending time with family. Andrej passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 79 years.

Andrej is survived by his wife Nina and 4 children: Nadezhda (Alexandr) Kazakov; Nikolay (Tatiana) Gelement; Lyudmila (Christopher) Nafziger and Lubov (Mikhail) Shapovalov; 13 grandchildren: Veronika, Angelina, Rozalia, Lubov, Nicole, Sarah, Nathaniel, Naomi, Samuel, Milana, Esther, Eve, and Jeremiah. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter Elizabeth Shapovalov December 3, 2016.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Sharon Bethel Church rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Sharon Bethel Church. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Andrej and his family.
