Amy Nesbitt

May 10, 1952 — April 11, 2009

Amy Louise Nesbitt, age 56, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on November 11, 2008 in Chicago, IL, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. Born May 10, 1952, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Amy was the daughter of Louis Miles and D'Anne (Kohl) Nesbitt. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1971, where she was a cheerleader and homecoming attendant. Amy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Iowa State University in 1976. After graduation Amy worked for the Lehigh Valley Youth Housing agency for runaway teens in Allentown, PA, and later as an insurance agent in the surrounding area for several years. In 1982, Amy moved to the Twin Cities area where she worked as a nanny and later began her pursuit of the nursing career she came to love. She attended the College of St. Catherine's School of Nursing and graduated with her nursing degree with honors in May 1992. She worked for the St. Mary's Rehabilitation Center in St. Paul, MN as a psychiatric nurse until 1998. She moved to North Carolina where she worked first as a nurse and then as a nursing home evaluator for the state until 1999 when she became disabled as a result of multiple sclerosis. She moved to Wolfeboro, NH in 2002, and after a brief time back in Mt. Pleasant moved to Chicago, IL in 2006. Amy had the gift of bringing laughter to those around her. She was always the great story teller, and she loved to share her stories with her friends and family, especially her beloved nieces and nephews. Amy is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Docie ( Larry) McCormick of Boalsburg, PA and Mirror Lake, NH, Pam (John) Merkle of Wayzata, MN, Jeff (Scotti) Nesbitt of Graham, NC, Jon (Joanne) Nesbitt of Bridgewater, NJ and Mark (Mary) Nesbitt of Eden Prairie, MN; her nieces and nephews, David McCormick, Christopher McCormick, Matthew McCormick, Brett Nesbitt, Kate Nesbitt Larkins, Alex Merkle, Jeff Merkle, Jill Merkle, Tom Nesbitt, Nick Nesbitt and Meredith Nesbitt; and her cousins, Stephen Tapscott, Sheila Tapscott and Sara Tapscott.
