Amney A. Pope, age 39, of North English, died after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg with Pastor Paul Nus officiating. Burial will be in Piersol Cemetery, near North English. Visitation will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English on Thursday, December 8, 2011, from 4 PM to7 PM. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church, Millersburg and Bethany Christian Services. Amney Ann Pope was born on September 9, 1972, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Joe'd and Karen Brockshus Axmear. Amney attended English Valleys schools in North English, where she participated in softball, basketball, track, and cross-country. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and various other high school activities. Amney attended and graduated from Luther College as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a student nurse at Concordia Language Villages in the Spanish camp in Bemidji, MN. Upon graduation she worked as a nurse at University Hospitals and Clinic, Iowa Donor Network, and lastly as a hospice nurse at Hospice of Compassion. Amney touched many people's lives both professionally and personally. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, the family photographer, and a care-giver. Amney married Lynn Pope and joined him on their farm in rural North English in July of 1995. Their daughter Lauren joined the family in 2003. Amney returned to work for a short time as a transplant nurse at the University of Iowa. Most recently she joined Lynn in the farm operation. Amney was a devoted and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Millersburg where she was an organist and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Amney is survived by her husband Lynn, her daughter Lauren at home, her parents Joe'd and Karen Axmear of South English, her brother Will (Elaine) and family of Nevada, IA, Jesse (Annie) and family of North English, IA, her sister Ellen of Fairbanks, Alaska, her grandmother Luella Brockshus, her mother-in-law Marlene Pope, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. Amney was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Maurice and Jean Axmear, maternal grandfather Alfred Brockshus, brother Chad (infancy) and father-in-law Charles Pope.
