Alwin Richmond, 84 of North English, went to be with Jesus on Friday, December 23rd, 2006, surrounded by his wife, LaVona and sister-in-law, LaVelda. A heart attack claimed his life. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Pastor Edwin Jordan. officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 AM until service time at 11:00 AM Tuesday December 26th. Graveside services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora, IL on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 1:00 PM. Alwin was born May 6, 1922 in Aurora, Illinois, one of twin sons of Arthur Richmond Sr. and Charlotte Anne (Brunt) Richmond (formally of Rotherham, England). He lived 2 years in Welland, Canada as a child. The rest of his life until 2001 was spent in Aurora, Illinois. He was a member of Oswego Presbyterian Church. He attended Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. While in Illinois he served several years as Elder. He and his twin brother, Arthur married twins, LaVona and LaVelda (Rowe) in Iowa City , Iowa, June 5, 1976. He was active in twin research, traveling, and several bowling leagues, including the traveling Moose for many years. He worked for Vendo Co. For 33 years and Richard-Wilcox Mfg. Co. in Aurora, Ill for 11 years. Alwin was a member of many civic clubs and Twin organizations. They attended Twin Conventions around the world winning many look-a-like awards. Known as the "Richmond 4" , they represented Illinois in the fourth International Congress of Twin Studies in London I 1984. They presented a paper at the seminar. They appeared in several national publications, including "People" Magazine. Alwin was installed in the Twin Hall of Fame by Twins Foundation, in 1986. He was co-editor of "Twincerely Yours" a newspaper for Twins and Scientists. Alwin was active in International association of Bridge Structural and Iron Workers, Navy League of US Amvets Post 103, American Legion Roosevelt Aurora Post 84, Legion of the Moose #9, Phoenix Club, St. George Citizen Club, Fraternal order of Eagles 1606 Aurora and 1344 forest Park, Loyal order of Moose 400, VFW Post 7452 associate member, retired Eagles (React) 1606, International Twins Association, Inc. Illinois State Twins Association, Chicagoland/Northern Illinois Twins, Hawkeye Twins Club of Iowa, Inc., The Twins Foundation, Twins International, Twinsburg, Ohio, Mid-West Twin-O-Rama, International Society of Twin Studies, National All-America Twins 1984?85. He held offices in many of these organizations. He traveled to many foreign countries promoting Twin research. Among them were: Switzerland, England, Israel, Barbados, and most of the United States. Alwin moved to North English in 2001. He is survived by his wife LaVona (Rowe) Richmond of North English, and sister-in-law LaVelda (Rowe) Richmond. Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dale and Helenjean (Rowe) Heck of Iowa City, Robert and Elsie (Ehrich) Rowe of Davenport. Uncle Craig Phillips of Aurora, IL,.several cousins, nieces and nephews. Alwin was preceded in death by his twin Arthur, his parents and his paternal grandparents Antone III, and Estelle (McGoon) Reichmuth. Antone was from county of Swise, Switzerland, Reichmuth became Richmond on naturalization.
