Alta Yoder

Kalona-Alta Jean Yoder was born July 24, 1939, in rural Kalona, Iowa.  The daughter of Lloyd and Clarissa (Hochstedler) Yoder.  She attended East Lincoln School.  In her youth she accepted Christ, she is a member of New Hope Mennonite Church in Washington.  Alta died at her home in Kalona following a long illness with Parkinson’s on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the age of 83 years.

Alta is survived by a brother, Willis and wife Wilma Yoder of Kalona; twelve nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.

Preceding Alta in death were her parents, brothers, Ernest Yoder and infant Glen Dale Yoder, sisters, Pauline Yoder, Susan Yoder, infant Anna Marie, Velma Yoder and Iva Yoder who died in early childhood and a sister-in-law Esther Yoder.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Sharon Bethel Church near Kalona.  Burial will be at Sharon Bethel Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the church.  Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Alta and her family.  Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
