Alta M. Troyer

Kalona-Alta M Troyer passed away Saturday, March 18 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona, Iowa. She was 95 years old. Alta was born September 27, 1927 in Shickley, Nebraska – the 9th child of Lloyd and Emma (Kennel) Troyer. In 1940, at age 12, Alta moved with her family from their farm in Shickley, Nebraska to a farm in rural Wellman, Iowa. She graduated from Wellman High School in 1946, and was a member of Wellman Mennonite Church. Alta shared a home with her sister Verda all of her adult life. Their home was always a welcoming abode, flowing with hospitality for family and friends. Her sister Verda, died in 2016. Alta worked for 40 years in dietary at the University of Iowa Hospital. She retired in 1998. After retiring she enjoyed volunteering when possible, and caring for her great nieces and nephews. Alta enjoyed traveling, reading, playing games, watching Hawkeye basketball, and especially spending time with family and friends.

Alta was preceded in death by her parents and her 9 siblings and their spouses: Ivan Troyer (of Shickley), Warren Troyer (of Shickley), Lloyd and Erma Troyer (of Kalona/Frytown), Nettie and Bill Fehlberg (of Wellman), Ida and Elmer Kliewer (of Mtn Lake MN), Wilma and Paul Becker (of Mtn Lake), Wilber and Vivian Troyer (of Wellman), Verda Troyer (of Kalona), and Della and Keith Yoder (of Kalona). She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be 10:30 am Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. Pastor David Heusinkveld will be officiating. Burial will be at Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm Friday, March 24, 2023, at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
