KEOTA- Alta P. McGuire, age 88, of Keota, died Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at Maplewood Manor in Keota. Alta was born February 25, 1919 in Keller, Washington to John and Matilda (Welke) McDevitt. She grew up in Spokane, Washington and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. Alta received her Registered Nurse training at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA. In 1941 she moved to Iowa and on October 9, 1941 she married Kenneth L. McGuire in Fairfield, Iowa. The couple made their home in Keota in 1942. Alta was instrumental in her husband's medical practice by using her nursing skills and helping him with house calls. Following Kenneth's death in 1980 she worked at the Washington Care Center as a registered nurse. Alta was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota Survivors include three daughters: Mary Patricia Vincent of Zearing, Iowa, Suzanne Jane Pawsat of Jacksonville, Alabama and Elizabeth Ann Ellis of Renton, Washington; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Kenneth; two brothers: John and Everett McDevitt and seven sisters: Julia Willis, Esther Porter, Anna Frances McDevitt, Vera Kelly, Mildred Hoem, Cleo Castle and Chloris Carter. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2007, at the Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2007, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established to the Huntington's Disease Foundation.
