Alta Otto Kauffman was born June 18, 1914 near Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Jonas and Lydia (Brenneman) Otto. In her youth she accepted Christ and was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church where she remained a faithful member until her death. On December 17, 1936 she was united in marriage to Abe Kauffman near Kalona. Alta died on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at her daughter's home near Kalona following complications from a fall a week earlier at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 27 days. Alta is survived by 3 sons and 5 daughters - Wilma, Mrs. Willis Yoder; Harley Kauffman and wife Katie; Lydia Inez, Mrs. Vernon Yoder all of Kalona; Fannie Rachel, Mrs. Willis Hershberger of Windsor, Missouri; Cephas Kauffman and wife Freda of Kalona; Norman Kauffman and wife Judy of Oakfield, Maine; Irene Ruth, Mrs. Jerry T. Miller of Pearisburg, Virginia; Mary Lou, Mrs. Ivan Borntrager of Kalona; a son-in-law Joseph T. Miller and wife Esther of Wheatland, Missouri; 77 grandchildren and 160 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter Rhoda; 3 brothers Daniel, Emanuel and Milton Otto; 5 sisters Tillie Otto, Lizzie Hochstedler, Cora Miller, Mary Otto and Amy Miller; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the S. Duane Miller residence at 5336 Cosgrove Rd. S.W. in rural Kalona. Bishop in charge is Elmer T. Miller. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Ivan Borntrager residence at 5292 Cosgrove Rd. S.W. in rural Kalona and will continue all day on Tuesday.
