KALONA - Alta Hochstedler was born January 27, 1936 in Arthur, Illinois, the daughter of John G. and Lena (Mast) Hochstedler. In her youth she accepted Christ and was a faithful member of the Old Order Amish Church. Alta has lived in the Kalona community since 1958. Alta died on Friday, March 11, 2016 at her home in Kalona at the age of 80 years, 1 month, and 14 days.
Alta is survived by two sisters Fannie Hochstedler and Amanda Hochstedler of Kalona, a sister-in-law Fannie Marie Gingerich of Bloomfield, eight nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Omer Hochstedler and Henry Hochstedler, two sisters Annie Gingerich and Mattie Hochstedler, a brother-in-law John Gingerich, and a sister-in-law Mrs. Omer Hochstedler.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Leland Miller residence at 1051 Maple Ave in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Vernon Yoder. Burial will be in the South Gingerich Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday and will continue all day on Sunday at the Leland Miller residence. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Alta and her family.
