Allen Haworth

Williamsburg- Allen Verne Haworth was born September 1, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Merle and Leona (Schermerhorn) Haworth.  He attended school at McKinley High School in 1957 as the last graduating class. He then attended Coe College and Kirkwood. Allen was united in marriage to Betty Swenson on April 16, 1960 at St. Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha.  They lived in Cedar Rapids, Marion, Newhall and Williamsburg. He was a Postmaster from 1959 starting in Norway and then in Williamsburg from 1975 until he retired in 1992.  He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Allen was instrumental in producing the large print at St. Paul’s since 1992 and was a choir member.  Allen passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at his home in Williamsburg at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son Bradley (Marsha) Haworth of Williamsburg; four granddaughters, Abby Timm-Haworth and Brittney Haworth both of Cedar Rapids, Nicole Allar of Coralville and Bobbi Allar of Marengo; great granddaughter Anastasia Haworth and sister Judith Wit of East Hampton Long Island, NY.  He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Cari Haworth.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. A Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM.   In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Choir, St. Paul Lutheran Endowment Fund, Williamsburg Public Library and the Williamsburg Fire Department.
