Parnell-Alice Gates White was born October 16, 1913 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Merritt and Luella Whitehill Gates. She graduated from Marengo High School. Alice taught school in Honeycreek Township for a number of years. Alice was united in marriage to Fred Clague White on June 7, 1939 in Des Moines. In 1941 the couple moved to a farm east of Parnell where they lived until moving to the assisted living at Colonial Manor in 1999. Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg and the Eastern Star. In the early years Alice enjoyed volunteering for the church, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Alice died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a brief illness at the age of 92 years, 28 days. Survivors include: two sons: Clark (Sherry) White of Homewood, Illinois and Lee (Alice) White of Ankeny; a daughter: Barbara (Charles) Gurnari of San Jose, California; three grandchildren: Kristin (Jason) Sosebee, Angela White and Andrew White; a great granddaughter: Sarah Sosebee and a sister: Florence Mumby of Ladora. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2003 a sister Elizabeth Jacoby. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am Thursday, November 17, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorial are for the First Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
