Alice Jean McCuen, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, October 05, 2007, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Visitation for Alice will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2007, beginning after 12 noon until 7:30 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant. The family will greet friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert David officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the First Presbyterian Church and Iowa Wesleyan College. Born June 15, 1930, in Oskaloosa, IA, Alice was the daughter of Floyd and Hazel Daggett Barnes. She was a 1949 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. In 1950, she married Charles R. McCuen. Alice was a lifelong and committed resident of the Mt. Pleasant community and was a homemaker. A long time member of the First Presbyterian Church, Alice served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. She was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and T.T.T. Society Chapter DD of Mt. Pleasant. In her earlier years, Alice was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie leader. She served as a volunteer for a number of charitable organizations and committees. She enjoyed family, music, sewing and fashion, reading, and cultivating friends, plants, and nature. Alice is survived by a son, Rob McCuen of Milwaukee, WI; a daughter, Mary McCuen of Highlands Ranch, CO; a sister, Betty and her husband Duane Thayer of Geneva, IL; a brother John Barnes of Burlington, IA; and her special friend, Jim DePriest, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant, IA. She is also survived by five nieces, two nephews, and several grand-nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents.
