Alice Dennis

Surrounded with the love of her family, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Alice Lee (Gonder) Dennis, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Mrs. Dennis was born, November 16, 1921, in Washington, IA, the daughter of Glen and Edith (Doran) Gonder. She grew up in Coralville and graduated from the University High School in Iowa City. Alice continued her education with 2 years of secretarial college. Alice married Barnard W. Dennis on June, 14, 1947, and they raised their 4 children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord: Mary Edith Heidbreder of Danville, IA; Barnard (Jean) Dennis of Rochester, NH; Marcia (Gary) Lantz of Glenwood Springs, CO; and Donald (Cathy) Dennis of Victoria, TX. Alice was a founding member of the Coralville Bible Church, which later became Coralville Evangelical Free Church and then the present Parkview Church in Iowa City. She devoted her life to her family, and served faithfully as an organist, pianist, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and choir member through the years at the Coralville Evangelical Free Church. Alice enjoyed tending a large garden, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and sang in the Coralville Community Chorus. She periodically worked outside the home in ACT pre-scoring at Westinghouse in Iowa City. She retired and moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1994 and became a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Barnard, in 1980; her parents; a sister, Marie Jadrnicek; a step-father Floyd Kelley; and son-in-law, Ronald Heidbreder. She is survived by her 2 sons and 2 daughters; 6 grandchildren: Margaret Wagner, Denise (Monte) Veatch, Travis Heidbreder, Alice (Mark) McLeland, Julie (Jeromy) Vance, Andrew Dennis; and 7 great-grandchildren. Alice's family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support over the past few months.
