Alice J. Davis, 97, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at Park Place Elder Care. A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31st at the Memorial Chapel with Pastors Trevor Davis and Carl Ratcliff officiating. Interment will be in Friends Cemetery in Lynnville, IA. Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical Friends Mission or the World Gospel Mission in her memory. Anna Alice Jones was born in Richland, IA, on October 27, 1917, the daughter of Martin James and Ada Eudoxie (Chamberlin) Jones. She graduated from Richland High School in 1935 and from William Penn College in 1940. She married John L. Davis on June 1, 1943 in Richland, IA. Their five sons were born while they lived near Grinnell. For 40 years, Alice worked as a teacher in Clio, Springdale, Washington, and Fairfield districts. While at Springdale, she taught and coached basketball at the high school level. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association in Fairfield. Alice taught in the Washington School District when the couple lived for twenty years at Marr Park, near Ainsworth, IA, where John was the executive officer for Washington County Conservation Board. Alice was well known for her faithful study of God's Word and long held reputation as a prayer warrior. For many years she invited children to her home for Bible study after school. She was also a member of the Salem Friends Church. Survivors include five sons, Steven Davis, of Moravia, IA, Donald (Rita) Davis of Mt. Pleasant, IA, David (Janet) Davis, of Battle Ground, WA, Philip (Lee Ann) Davis of Lake View, IA, and Paul (Adora) Davis of Jacksonville, FL; 19 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Jones of Rubio, IA. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, John; two sisters, Eleanora and Doris; a brother, Joe; a granddaughter, Johna; and a great grandson, Canaan.
