Alda F. Himler was born on Friday, October 23, 1908 near Webster, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Mary Hervey Fancher. She attended rural school and Webster High School. Alda was united in marriage to Arthur E. Himler on August 28, 1928 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They farmed near Millersburg, until moving to Cedar Rapids from 1958 - 1968. They moved back to the farm and in 1974 moved into South English. Alda was a homemaker and sold Avon Products for 20 years. She served as an Iowa County 4-H committee woman for several years. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her angel food cakes. Alda died on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 in the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, after a brief illness, at the age of 96 years, 8 months and 13 days. Alda is survived by a daughter Betty Schaffner and husband Russell of Deep River; seven grandchildren: Gary Schaffner, Patricia (Arlen) Fisher, Stephen Schaffner and Mary (Bryan) Greene all of North English; Charlene Oehl of Millersburg; David Schnaffner of Deep River and Deborah (David) Grimm of Williamsburg; twenty-one great grandchildren: Chris, Doug, Jon and Megan Schaffner and Amber Schnaffner Wilhelm; Mike, Jeremy and Steve Fisher and Kelli Fisher Hoeg; Jennifer and Alissa Schaffner; Ray and Rebecca Oehl; Jason, Scott and Janelle Greene; April, Lisa, Mat, Heather and Taylor Grimm and 12 great, great grandchildren. Alda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur in November 1990, two sons: Larry & Edward and a brother Frankie Fancher. Funeral services are set for 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English with David E. Grimm in charge. Burial is in the North English Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
