Albert Earnest Long, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Salem, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit. Funeral services for Mr. Long will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at the Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, with Pastors Titus Boggs and Nathan Martin officiating. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday morning. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Salem Friends Church. Born July 30, 1920 in Salem, IA, Albert was the son of Harold M. and Lona B. McDowell Long. He graduated from Pleasant Lawn High School. He worked at Lincoln School for many years as a custodian. He also provided janitorial services at Cargill Seed Company and Ceco. Albert was a member of Salem Friends Church and taught Sunday School for several years. He enjoyed making angel food cakes and spent many hours making latch hook rugs and pictures. Albert loved all kinds of sports. Mr. Long is survived by one sister, Helen and her husband Bill Henthorn of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and one aunt, Marjorie Smith of Salem, IA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Along with his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by a twin brother, Delbert Long, and a sister, Evelyn King.
