Alan R. Caldwell, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, December 01, 2013, at Arbor Court. Open visitation will be held on Friday, December 06, 2013, from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Mary Christopher officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to St. Michael's Episcopal Church and C.E.D.A. (Camp Eastman Development Association). Born August 1, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Alan Richard was the son of Edward Pascal and Ida Macil Kinney Caldwell. He was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He attended Iowa State University and Iowa Wesleyan College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the Army Reserves. On October 7, 1961, Alan married Diane Peterson in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Prior to entering the service, Alan was the parts and shop foreman at Hodson-McKim Automotive. On his return from military duty, he was the manager of Caldwell Auto Supply, which later became SIEG Auto Parts. He retired in 1991. A lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, Alan was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. He completed eight years of service on the Mt. Pleasant Planning and Zoning Board and was appointed to the Tax Increment Financing Board. Alan was a committee and board member of the Mt. Pleasant Little League, along with acting as the equipment manager for many years. Thousands of hours of service were dedicated to Mt. Pleasant Boy Scout Troop 28, Camp Eastman, and Order of the Arrow as scouting was Alan's love and the organization he gave most of his time. He served as troop committee chairman, charter representative and chairman of Friends of Scouting. He worked on numerous construction projects at Camp Eastman and served on many of board and advisory committees for Camp Eastman and Order of the Arrow. He was an organizer of the Camp Eastman Development Association. As a Boy Scout himself, he earned many accolades including The God and Country Scouting Religious Award and his Eagle Scout Award. Along with his wife, Diane, Alan is survived by two sons, Ed (Barb) Caldwell of Toledo, OH and Scott Caldwell of Plano, TX; a brother, Rev. Gary Caldwell of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and five grandchildren, Kirsten, Logan, Luke, Lauren, and Weston Caldwell. Alan was preceded in death by his parents.
